Don't get me wrong, I love the show even though the story has historical inaccuracies (they make it more interesting IMO). The costume/set design, the dancing etc. is all meticulously accurate, but why, when it comes to the battle scenes is it so inaccurate? I mean the armies look absolutely nothing like a French or Italian army would have looked during the period. It's weird, beings how there are plenty of people with degrees in military history (myself included) and other uniformology experts (wargamers in particular) that would work for peanuts. I mean even the costume designers could do a simple google search and see that the French army in Italy was primarily gendarmes (knights in plate armor) and Swiss pikemen (dressed in cantonal colors, not French dudes in long blue robes. Don't even get me started on Cesare Borgia's army.

Does anyone know what the costumes for this time period are called? I know they are Renaissance but do they have a less broad name like Elizabethan or Regency? Any information would help, thank you.
