Almost two weeks after the show's renewal, Showtime's decision seems to have paid off: with both of its lead-ins (Nurse Jackie and The Big C) down from last week, "Day of Ashes" was a triumphant success watched by 687,000 viewers on 10 p.m. (versus 567,000 for "The Choice") and 845,000 (versus 749,000 for "The Choice"). Just as I predicted last week, the show rose but still stayed in the 600-700 thousand range, which isn't bad at all.

I've tweeted the link to the various Borgias Twitter groups and then feeling brave, I also tweeted David, Holliday, Aidan, Ronan, Ruta & Luke with the link, simply because it's so well done. :-) (I've missed off other cast members due to space) To my amazement yesterday Aidan actually retweeted the link to his followers!
I hope you enjoy it, but be warned, you'll singing it for days to come! :-)

Hello - I'm wondering if anyone familiar with Renaissance choral music can help me with the gorgeous music from this scene - I'm trying to find out what it is because I LOVE IT - I'm suspecting something by Palestrina - a bit of the latin text I can make out is "columba ascend[it]?" which means something about doves ascending. And may I just gratuitously add that Francois is absolutely scrumptious in this scene :-)

Overall I think this series has done pretty well with using music from the correct historical period, but one glaring exception would have to be using Handel's "Zadok the Priest" during Alexander VI's coronation scene. This work was not written until 1727, over 200 years after the event portrayed in that scene.

i'm doing a review of the music used in the series, and i'm only up to episode 4 of season 1. so far nothing has been of the period - almost all of it is some 50-150 years too late for the series. the only exceptions so far have been a Trotto and a Saltarello, both Italian, but of the late 14th C, so more appropriate for Boccacio than the Borgias.

I've watched all of series one (well i have it on dvd-obviously!) but I don't have the channel so can't watch season 2 (yet).
But what happens in series 2? I know about Lucrezia causing the chandelier to fall (although i couldn't find any information about the real Lucrezia doing this? still gripping though lol). Who dies in this series!? Too much suspense. I love this show.

As usual, the numbers are in and they are the best we've had for weeks: 579,000 viewers on 10 pm (vs 509,000 for "The Beautiful Deception) and 745,000 for the night (vs 691,000 for "The Beautiful Deception). Certainly a few tens of thousands of viewers returned for the all new episode, the first to be exclusively aired instead of uploaded or whatever and I expect more to come. The show did very well given its lead-ins and it is the first week it surpasses both "Nurse Jackie" and "The Big C" on total viewers and the 18-49 audience share for 10 pm. Let's hope that Showtime won't take long to announce a renewal.

No, Sancia will not be making an appearance. Neil has chosen to bypass that aspect of their story. Emanuelle Chriqui, the actress who portrays her, stated last year she would not be involved in season 2. There has been no indication from the writers/producers if Sancia or Joffre will be re-appearing in the series.

"Or perhaps his half-brother, and therefore brother to Sancia as well?" We'll just have to wait until AoA enters the Borgia family. That would be interesting though.
